Keri and Kate are two values driven women leading the way in plant based skin care. Their brand Cedar + Stone is a favourite among many of you so we decided to ask them a few questions to see what powers them on and what their favourite product is.
When did Cedar + Stone begin and what inspired you to start your brand?
It started in August 2014, when my youngest son was 2 weeks old. I have always been inspired by natural living and dabbled in making my own skincare and products for the home. Then my sister rang one day and said, lets bottle it up and sell it at the markets and then that was that, the next day Cedar + Stone was created.
What did you both do prior to Cedar + Stone and was it easy/ hard to walk away?
Kate has been dipping her toes in lots of different businesses for most of her adult life. She loves it. Our first priorities are our families and especially our children, its such a short time with them so thats our No.1.
Why ethical and why plant based?
Because its just feels wrong and weird to abuse the Earth and its inhabitants.
What do you love most about what you do every day?
Never knowing whats round the corner, you never know what email or phone call is coming, everything is an opportunity for growth personally which then reflects onto the business.
On the flipside what's your greatest challenge?
Balance. When we all have kids and we are wanting to be at all of their achievements, it can be a bit of a juggle sometimes. But you get that card thrown at you in all aspects of life.
If there is one person you could meet and go to lunch with who would it be and why?
Too many are coming to mind so I think I would have a dinner party:
- Oprah & Louise Hay - For their inspiration and outlook on life.
- David Attenborough & Jane Goodall - They understand life on a different level. Their stories would be unbelievable and I would love to hear Davids voice in person haha.
- Elon Musk - Goes without saying.
- Our passed away relatives, because we would all love that one more dinner party.
- And a band, well lets do a festival of bands to liven us all up.
When did you have a high 5 moment when you thought 'yes this is awesome'?
We've had so many, every week there's something we are pretty stoked about. We are gypsy's at heart so booking travel tickets are what we get excited about the most.
If you could have two superpowers what would they be?
Teleportation. Obviously. Imagine it. To stay in my heart space at all times.
What is your favourite product from your range and why?
Face Oil - We've had it since the start and its still one of our best sellers. Cant live without it. FULLSTOP. LOVE!
If you could give any advice to anyone either in their career or starting their own business what would it be?
Make sure it is something you really really love and something that has meaning to you. Because if it takes off it is so much easier to be emerged in it.
Finally what's next? Any nuggets to share?
We are all concentrating on how to achieve a well balanced life, achieve our goals in business, have fun, be kind to ourselves, take time for what is important to us. Always have a few nuggets tucked up with our sleeves, got to, its what makes us tick ha.
