If you’re new to Skincare, you may be wondering why so many beauty bloggers and skincare enthusiasts are raving about Serums. You may also be wondering whether they’re a necessary part of a skincare routine — because all we need is moisturiser and SPF right?
Wrong! Whilst moisturiser and SPF are a vital part of your skincare routine, anyone who is interested in keeping a youthful appearance or targeting skin concerns should be investing in a serum for daily use.
Isabella Granero from The Jojoba Company shares why we should use a Serum, read along!

What Is A Serum?
Serums are lightweight, quick-absorbing products that contain a high concentration of active ingredients — which are ingredients that actually work to address and target certain skincare concerns.
Some examples of these highly sought after actives include Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Vitamin C. Most serums are made up of smaller molecules, which allows them to deliver these active ingredients deeper within the skin.

Skin Concerns
If you have a skin concern — whether you want to reduce dark spots, dullness and ageing, or you want to better exfoliate and hydrate the skin, incorporating a serum in your daily skincare routine is beneficial.
Different serums will target different concerns, so it's best to opt for a serum that is specifically designed to improve your individual skin concern.
If you suffer from pigmentation, The Jojoba Company Pigmentation Oil is fantastic for evening skin tones, reducing pigmentation and age spots. The Rosehip Oil helps with scars and stretch marks. The Youth Potion, increases elasticity and firmness for a youthful complexion, whilst the Transformative Eye Serum reduces fine lines and dark circles.

Level Up Your Skincare Routine
Think of Serums as a simple way to level up your skincare routine. Applying a serum is one extra step that will help to keep your skin healthy and youthful.
If you’re interested in reducing the signs of ageing, The Jojoba Company’s Ultimate Serum is a natural, powerful anti-ageing serum that will visibly reduce wrinkles while working to hydrate and plump the skin. It is recommended that the ideal time to start using a serum is in your late 20’s to early 30’s, which is when our skin starts to show the first signs of ageing.
Make sure to apply your skincare products by consistency — lighter products applied first, followed by thicker products. This ensures the lighter products, like serums, absorb into the skin before thicker products, like Moisturisers and Creams, are able to lock in all the moisture.

When Should You Apply A Serum?
Serums are usually a more watery consistency, which means they should be applied to the skin after you’ve Cleansed and/or used a Toner. With serums, less is more — so only apply a pea sized amount to the skin. You want the serum to soak in before you go in with a thicker product, like a Facial Oil, Daily Moisturiser or Night Cream.
It’s suggested you only use one serum at a time, however if you want to use more than one, try to incorporate one as part of your morning routine and a different serum as part of your night time routine.
