International Women's Day With Biologi!

What motivates you? 

Biologi was developed out of a real desire to help people with their skin and make a difference in the world, so when we receive positive feedback and see the results that our customers achieve with our products, it inspires and drives me further. 

I also want to share the success of Biologi and so introduced our “random acts of kindness” whereby a random customer of Biologi receives an extra free gift in their package. This small touch point always seems to find the person who really needs it and makes my day when they reach out to us with their appreciation.  

What are some tips to manage a team well? 

I believe having a great HR manager or contractor to guide and teach you is something that has worked incredibly well for Biologi as its evolved from infancy to today, (we are 5 years old).  I also think having a well-balanced team in terms of personality and working style is very important in getting the right balance, that’s why we have implemented the DiSC profile which we share with our full team, so they also have full transparency which allows our team members to understand each other’s working style better, I am also a big believer in open communication and encourage this with every Biologi team member. 

Finally, I have found over the years,  it’s easier to manage a team when guidelines have been put in place about roles, position descriptions and career progression, but most importantly ensuring a great workplace culture. At Biologi it’s essential that we provide an environment where all staff can thrive, grow and feel supported.

What advice could you give someone wanting to start their own business?

Stay passionate! If you are really, really passionate about what you are doing, (by living and breathing it), this is what will get you through your most challenging moments.

What’s something cool about Biologi that our customers might not know? 
Ross Macdougald, the founder of Biologi, is a formulating chemist and he wanted the labels to resemble the periodic table. The B is always for Biologi and the letter next to the B is a letter from the plant that is used i.e. Bk Vitamin C Serum = B is for Biologi, and the K is for Kakadu Plum!

What’s something you do to embrace equity? What does embracing equity mean to you? 

Briefly, embracing equity is about respecting and treating each team member equally and fairly by ensuring they receive what they need to succeed within our company.  We consider every person’s individual needs and help provide the tools required to be successful. For us, this may mean offering flexible working arrangements, upskilling a team member, or sending them on specific courses. This helps provides equal opportunities to thrive and succeed in their role.

What’s the difference between a lip serum, lip balm and lip oil?

I think of each one like this; a lip serum is like a treatment for your lips, providing superior ingredients to hydrate and nourish the lips, a lip balm is thicker and provides protection and softening of the lips and a lip oil gives a high shine and can be more occlusive for the lips.  

What’s a valuable lesson you’ve learned that has stuck with you today? 

This one is easy! ALWAYS listen to your intuition. If you have a negative feeling, even a tiny flicker of one, it’s never wrong — so go with what feels right.

Can the lip serum be multi-purposed?

I actually love to put a tiny bit on my cuticles and massaging it in. You can use it as an overnight conditioning night lip treatment, and I recommend putting it on first before a lip colour or lip balm.  It’s also great for everyone to use because of its unisex packaging. 

What’s your go-to Biologi skincare routine look like?

Having a professional dermal therapy background, I do love to use a few Biologi products in my regime and like to be intuitive by stepping up or changing my regime when needed, especially as I suffer from eczema. When I have a flare-up, I use the Bf Restore Face & Body Serum both morning and night.

However, I am currently using the Bg Defence Anti-Pollution Serum in the morning to protect and shield my skin and the Bk Vitamin C Face & Eye Serum at night because summer is coming to a close and I want to brighten and strengthen my skin.  I cleanse with the Bc Refresh Cleanser morning and night and once-a-week exfoliant with the Bx Reveal Exfoliant.  I also love LED  which I have once a week and have professional treatments in our own skin room – Biologi skinlaB approximately every 4 – 6 weeks. I never leave the house without SPF.
