Get ready to unplug during Screen Free Week! From May 2-8, we encourage you and your family to go screen-free and try out a bunch of fun activities to connect with one another, boost your mood, and hopefully learn something new! Below, we’ve put together five kid-friendly ways to unplug from the world — using some of our fantastic, ethical products.
#1: Learn About The Environment With F&F’s Educational Books
Kids can obviously use screens to learn new things — but there’s nothing better than holding a physical book, seeing the pictures, and being able to absorb the information at your own pace. We have some gorgeous, educational books:
- Water: A Deep Dive of Discovery (ages 6-10). Helps readers to understand the importance of water to all life on Earth!
- Planet Power: Explore the World’s Renewable Energy (ages 6-11), is another favourite — it's about six renewable energy technologies that are used around the world, including solar, wind and hydropower.
- Incredible Animals (ages 8-12), is packed with fascinating information about animals from all around the world.
- Sky Gazing (ages 9-14), will spark your kids’ curiosity of the solar system!
#2: Start A Veggie Garden With The Little Veggie Patch
Gardening is a fantastic activity to do by yourself, or with kids. What's more, The Little Veggie Patch makes it super easy!
- Their Kids Seed Kit comes with planting instructions, seeds (Beans, Peas, Carrots, Sunflower and Strawberry), peat plugs and reusable plant labels. These particular plants grow fast, so they're a great learning experience for kids.
- Their Beginners Seed Kit comes with the same DIY tools, but contains Radish, Silverbeet, Parsley, Spring Onion and Lettuce seeds instead! Great for beginners.
- The Beneficial Bug Seed Kit contains Borage, Dandelion, Dill, Tansy and Clover seeds to attract beneficial bugs.
- The Balcony Seed Kit contains Tomato (bush), Basil, Chilli, Spinach and Cornflower seeds. This kit is perfect for those of you without a big garden!
#3: Get Crafty With Eco Crayons & Animal Magic
It’s amazing to see what kids can come up with when you give them a handful of non-toxic, plant-based crayons and a colouring book! We love our gorgeous range of Australian-themed colouring books and craft activities, too.
- Eco Crayons Animal Shaped Crayons are toxin-free, biodegradable, and handmade in Australia. This particular set contains 8 adorable animals in earthy colours.
- Another favourite here is the Eco Crayons Natural Eco Paints, which comes with 8 gorgeous, plant-based paints, derived from plants, roots, spices and flower pigments!
- Animal Magic have some gorgeous colouring books — our favourite, of course, is the Australia Colouring Book.
- Animal Magic also have some DIY cross stitch kits that come with all the tools you need.
#4: Bake Something Delicious With Pana, Vego & Dandies
Baking is such a great way to switch off, unplug, and enjoy the process of creating something new. If you haven’t already, please check out our Vegan Recipes category — your tastebuds will thank us later!
- How about a Vegan Oreo Caramel Cake? This delish vegan recipe features Pana Organic Cashew & Caramel Spread.

For kids, playing dress-ups, getting messy with makeup, and trying out new hairstyles is always fun! We have some safe and all-natural products that can help your kids get creative.
- Our No Nasties Pretty Play Makeup Set (Pink) is an adorable, vegan and toxin-free makeup set — just for kids! It also comes with cute nail stickers, too.
- Another favourite from No Nasties is their Pink Vegan Lip Balm, which has a light tint and a pink shimmer.
- We have so many gorgeous all-natural Nail Polish options, but one of our favourites would have to be the Hanami Holograms Nail Polish. This transparent, iridescent nail polish is free from nasties — a great starter polish for kids!
- We love Kooshoo’s range of natural hair ties, scrunchies and headbands. The Rainbow Hair Ties is a kids fave!
