Heading to the beach?
We haven't had many perfect beach days this year, but the weather is warming up!
We're gearing up for a day in the sun with lots of sunscreen, snacks, drinks, and saltwater, minus the single use plastic!
To help you have a pretty fantastic beach day we've put together our top 10 eco-friendly beach day essentials for you so keep reading.....
1. Natural Sunscreen
Along with a sun hat and rashie, sunscreen is essential for protecting your skin, especially since the sun is a lot stronger here in Australia!
Another thing to think about when choosing a sunscreen is our ocean. Many sunscreens contain harsh chemicals like Oxybenzone or Octinoxate which can do a lot of damage to our coral reefs.
Thankfully, all of our sunscreen at Flora & Fauna is made from natural ingredients with a zinc base, 100% vegan and cruelty-free, reef safe and is free of nasties!
2. Etiko Thongs or Flip-Flops
Nothing screams summer more than a good old thong tan line! These super comfortable flip-flops are made from a mix of natural and recycled rubber.
Part of the sale of these thongs also goes to Sea Shepherd, and other great charities, and helps support the great work they do for our oceans.
3. Sunglasses
We are totally obsessed with the range of Pela sunglasses! These sunnies are 100% biodegradable just like their phone cases.
They come in lots of different colours and shapes to suit your face.
4. Natural Tan
If you're looking for a natural pre-beach glow sans sun exposure, we've got lots of great natural, vegan tanning products from EcoTan and Three Warriors.
And if you're going to a (covid safe) pool party or party at the beach, we highly recommend trying the limited edition Jojoba Glow for a perfect sun-kissed look.
5. Freezable Wine Bag
Keep your drinks cool with this freezable bag, great for transporting drinks to the beach! You might even bring a fresh juice or smoothie!
6. Reusable Cutlery
This cutlery set is great to carry with you wherever you do, but also great for eating hot chips on the beach when you've got sandy hands!
7. Lunchbox
It's not a beach day without your favourite summer snacks. We've got lunch boxes to keep your food cold and these neat bento boxes to separate dips, veggies, fruits and more!
8. Reusable Water Bottle
Lots of activity in the heat can easily cause dehydration, so it's important you bring some cool water with you to the beach.
If you haven't already made the swap to a reusable water bottle, now's the time! No one wants plastic water bottles near the ocean!
BBBYO, Cheeki, and Water3 have insulated bottles, perfect for keeping water cold.
9. SPF Lip Balm
The skin on your lips is very sensitive so it's important to make sure you're protecting them with some SPF lip balm, especially on a day when the UV is high!
Hurraw's Sun Lip Balm has SPF15 and is deeply moisturising - great any time of the year.
10. Aloe Vera
After a long day in the sun, if you forgot to reapply your sunscreen, you may need some Aloe Vera to help soothe your skin!
We've got some great aloe vera gels from Absolute Essential, Dr Organic and Every Bit Organic Raw.
